Meaning

What is not yet known. The Book is a secret, a matter still closed, or knowledge the querent does not have — and, in its other face, learning, study, and formal education. The two senses are the same card seen from either side of the cover.

Traditionally readers pay attention to whether the book in the image is open or closed, taking an open Book as knowledge available and a closed one as knowledge withheld.

The tone is neutral and reserved. The Book does not say the secret is unwelcome; it says there is something you have not been told.

Beside other cards

Usually the modifier, making its neighbour hidden or academic. Book + Heart is a secret affection. Book + Fox is deception concealed. Distinguish from Clouds: Clouds is confusion, Book is information deliberately not shared.
