Meaning

Talk, and the nervousness in it. The Birds are conversation — phone calls, chatter, gossip, negotiations, two people talking. The card is often read as anxiety as well, the mental fluttering that accompanies too much discussion.

Because the traditional image shows two birds, the card frequently indicates a pair: two people, two calls, a short duplication.

The tone is restless and light. The Birds are busy rather than heavy. Their difficulty is agitation, not damage.

Beside other cards

Usually the modifier, making its neighbour verbal or anxious. Birds + Ring is a negotiation. Birds + House is talk within the family. Distinguish carefully from the Letter, which is written and formal, where the Birds are spoken and informal.
