Man

Meaning

A man in the querent's situation, or the querent himself. The Man is the deck's principal significator for an adult male — a partner, a colleague, a figure the reading concerns. In a reading for a man, it usually stands for the querent.

It carries no inherent quality of its own. Everything about him — his temperament, his role, his intentions — comes from the cards nearby.

The tone is entirely neutral. This is a placeholder for a person, and reading character into the card itself is a mistake.

Beside other cards

Almost always the subject. The neighbours describe him: Man + Fox is a man not being straight, Man + Bear is a man with authority, Man + Coffin is a man at an ending. Which card sits closest usually says the most.
