Meaning

An obstacle, and the delay it causes. The Mountain is a genuine blockage — something large, immovable, and slow to pass. It stands in the way, and it does not care about the querent's timeline.

It also carries coldness and distance in some readings: an obstacle can be a person's remoteness as much as a circumstance.

The tone is heavy and static. The Mountain is not malicious; it is simply there. Its most useful feature is that it can be gone around, and readings often point to the route rather than to removal.

Beside other cards

A strong modifier that blocks or delays its neighbour. Mountain + Letter is a message not arriving. Mountain + Heart is a blocked or distant affection. Beside movement cards — Rider, Stork, Ship — it is the thing holding them up.
